Anna Maria Island 2019 Vacation Recap

Happy Tuesday!

But for real, does it not feel like the Monday-est Tuesday ever? πŸ˜‚ Took advantage of some extra time today to give you a small recap of our trip to Anna Maria Island!

AMI feels like my home away from home. My family and I have been vacationing on this island since I was in high school. We love it so much that we don’t just vacation there on Spring Break, we now go a second time in the fall. It feels like every time we go, we find a new restaurant we love or a hidden gem. There’s always the staple spots that we make sure we visit every time as well.

The last two years, we have rented out an ocean front home that is able to house 11 or more people (I have a pretty big family, haha) because we all like to stay together and enjoy the beach. This year was extra special because it was Griff’s first family vacation to Florida. I can’t wait for him to grow up and make memories here.

Because we have access to a kitchen, we actually make a lot of our meals while we vacation, but we always make a few nights special by going out to eat.

Some of our favorite restaurants + places in the area:

Anna Maria Oyster Bar : it’s probably the most well known place to eat on the island, because it’s right on the pier. We like to eat here on Mondays because they have all-you-can-eat fish and chips. The men in my family are pretty much fishing from sun up to sun down, so while we wait, or before or after the meal, the guys are fishing or trapping crabs.

Rod and Reel : Another restaurant at the end of a pier. πŸ˜‚ If you haven’t guessed it yet, this is another great fishing spot as well. We’ve seen sharks and manatee swimming around the area as well. My personal favorite here is the gumbo, but we are usually here during grouper season, so the fish is always delicious and freshly caught.

Salty Dog : I think we found this place after it was featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. We always share the steamer pots filled with mussels, shrimp, crab legs, corn and potatoes. Again, you get another incredible view of the bay, and we always love coming here for sunsets.

The Donut Experiment : Johnny, my mom and I took our golf cart here one morning to grab some coffee and a dozen donuts. They have fun flavors and ingredients, and the coffee is great.

The Sea Hagg : This place is more odd than anything, but fun to look at the menagerie of sea items. It’s a great place to go if you might have a bad weather day and need somewhere new and fun to go!

Anna Maria Island is always home to me, and I love taking the time to share it with you. πŸ’›

Always, Aleesha
